Official Ruleset

Series Format

The MASH Elite Series has adopted a format that supports national and Kansas high school rules with select modifications and the adoption of various college rules designed to elevate competition, player safety, and game flow.

Game Structure

Format varies by age group.

  • Grades 11/12 & Up (Invitational): 16-minute Stop Clock halves with college rules applied.
  • All Other Age Groups: Four 8-minute quarters.
  • Halftime: 10-minute halftime break.
  • Running Clock: For all age groups except 11/12 & up Invitational: activates when a team builds a 30-point lead in the 4th quarter and continues for the remainder of the game. Does not apply to Invitational games.

Foul & Free Throw Rules — Grades 11/12 & Up (College Rules)

College (NCAA Men's) foul and bonus structure applies for Invitational games.

  • Fouls 1–6 (Per Half): Standard penalty. If a non-shooting foul occurs, no free throws are awarded — play restarts with a throw-in.
  • Fouls 7–9 — Single Bonus: Awards a "one-and-one" opportunity. The shooter must make the first free throw to earn a second attempt.
  • Fouls 10+ — Double Bonus: Awards two free throws automatically on all subsequent defensive and loose-ball fouls. No make-it-to-earn-it.
  • Foul Reset: Team fouls reset to zero at halftime (not per quarter).

Foul & Free Throw Rules — All Other Age Groups

KSHSAA / National high school rules with select modifications.

  • No More 1-and-1: The traditional "one-and-one" free throw bonus has been eliminated.
  • Double Bonus: Teams shoot two free throws starting with the 5th team foul of each quarter.
  • Foul Reset: Team fouls reset to zero at the end of every quarter, rather than at halftime.

Equipment & Uniforms

  • Ball Size (Boys): Standard 29.5" ball.
  • Ball Size (Girls): 28.5" ball.
  • Jersey Colors: Home team wears light-colored jerseys; visiting team wears dark.
  • Home Team: The team listed first on the online schedule is the home team.
